Morten Balle holds a Master's degree in biochemistry from the University of Oslo. He also studied chemistry, mathematics and biology.
He has almost 20 years' experience as a patent engineer, and has prepared several hundred patent applications in a variety of different technical fields such as medical technology, equipment for offshore vessels, equipment for industrial treatment of foodstuffs, process chemistry, process equipment, biochemistry / "life sciences", and technology for CO2 capture.
Morten has carried out a number of freedom to operate evaluations (FTO) where the client's scope for action is assessed in relation to patents held by competitors. He undertakes intervention assessments and assists clients in relation to conflicts and legal proceedings.
The other key tasks that Morten works with are consulting on patent strategy, assessing patentability, search strategy, as well as evaluating and consulting on specific and current conflict situations relating to IPR / patents.
Morten is very much involved in committee work relating to these technical disciplines. He is a past board member of the Norwegian Patent Engineers Association (Norske Patentingeniørers Forening) and is past president of Licensing Executive Society (LES) Scandinavia, work which gives a broad international network and professional updates.

He has presented miscellaneous lectures on the protection of industrial property, relating primarily to patents. He was a member of the Organising Committee for the LES International Conference 2003. Chairman of Organizing committee for LES Scandinavian Annual Conference in 2011 and 2015. Mr. Balle deals primarily with chemistry and biochemistry patent applications, as well as some applications relating to the field of mechanics. He also has experience of applications relating to plant breeding law.
